This past Wednesday, February 12, Louise Ferguson, one of the leading pistachio experts worldwide, visited our fruit plant. Mrs. Ferguson has developed studies on the general physiology of production of pistachios, olives, citrus fruits, figs, persimmons and pomegranates. She works in the science specialist extensión plant department of Camp Davis at University of California. Accompanying this prestigious researcher we met Javier Moreno of the Spanish company Mr. Pistacho, that grows UCBI plant; and Facundo Balboni, owner of Argentine company BMF Agro, a producer of pistachios and plants in Mendoza area.
Our technician Rubén Cruz and our Sales Manager Javier Gutierrez enjoyed sharing about the different agronomic production techniques used in these 3 large producing areas of pistachio, California, Mendoza and La Mancha. They exchanged knowledge about different varieties varieties patterns, the implantation in the soil and the different fertilizers of the soils, blossoming moments and latency periods of heat and cold. The issue of irrigation, volume and quality of the water used was also discussed, and of course, fertilizer irrigation and treatments applied to pistachio plant. Another matter discussed, during this meeting, was techniques for organic farming.
From El Bisabuelo Eladio, we really appreciate this visit and the fruitful exchange of knowledge about pistachio.
