Caring for pistachio trees in La Loma: keys to a sustainable and productive harvest

In the mature pistachio plantations in the La Loma area, the season is progressing very positively. According to our technician, Jesus Caballero, flowering has been excellent this year thanks to very favourable weather conditions: mild temperatures, without excessive cold or heat, which has allowed for good fruit set, with many fruits per cluster.
It is important to remember that, due to the altitude of La Loma, pistachio development is approximately three weeks behind other areas, which is normal every season.

After flowering and setting, a foliar treatment was carried out once the leaves were fully developed, following sustainable practices that are key to the balance of the crop. This treatment has a dual purpose: on the one hand, to prevent fungal diseases that can appear more easily at high altitudes, and on the other, to provide essential amino acids and micronutrients that strengthen the tree and prevent possible nutritional deficiencies.

Fertigation has already begun on the irrigated plots. In this process, liquid fertilisers with macronutrients and humic acids are applied, always with a sustainable approach. Fertigation is essential for nourishing the pistachio tree efficiently, allowing it to develop its fruit properly until harvest without depleting its own reserves. The objective is clear: to achieve a good harvest this year without weakening the trees, ensuring that they have enough strength to also produce sustainably in the next season.

El Bisabuelo Eladio’s philosophy is to care for and feed the pistachio trees well in order to guarantee a productive and sustainable harvest for this year and for future harvests.
